Lactalis Canada Sustainability and Community Service Programs Win Canadian Grocer Impact Awards
August 14, 2024 – Toronto, ON –Lactalis Canada, the Canadian dairy leader behind iconic brands like Cracker Barrel, Black Diamond, Balderson, Astro and Lactantia and a subsidiary of France-based Lactalis Group, is proud to be recognized with two 2024 Canadian Grocer Impact awards in the Sustainability and Community Service categories.
Sustainability Award
Lactalis Canada’s Supply Chain Team implemented an Intermodal Transportation Program in Western Canada that has seen 70% of product moving from Eastern to Western Canada transitioned from road to rail annually. In alignment with Lactalis Canada’s key ESG priority of reducing GHG emissions, this program has improved operational efficiency and route optimization and reduced over 14,000 metric tonnes of CO₂e since its launch – the equivalent to removing 3,000 trucks from the road each year.
Community Service Award
As part of Lactalis Canada’s commitment to the communities in which it operates in, the company’s P’tit Québec brand once again rolled-out the P’tits projets pas si p’tits campaign in June 2023 in the small town of Sainte-Edwidge in Quebec’s Coaticook Regional County. Now in in its third year, the campaign included a variety of refurbishment projects focused on enhancing community spaces and making meaningful impact for Saint-Edwidge and its residents. The Canadian Grocer Impact awards recognize initiatives introduced by retailers, suppliers and solution providers that are making a meaningful difference in a range of areas from helping the planet to supporting employees and communities. The award categories include Sustainability, Diversity, Equity & Inclusion, Supporting Employees and Community Service. Lactalis Canada was recognized with a Canadian Grocer Impact award for Sustainability in 2021 and for Community Service in 2022 and 2023.
